Application for Department-level Student Exchange

This information applies to you if your department has a department-level agreement with the Yonsei University Department of Computer Science, and you have been selected for such an exchange and have already received the acceptance email from the Yonsei University online application system. If so, you are kindly asked to proceed as outlined below.

Step 1: File an On-line Exchange Student Application

You can only file the online application once you have received the acceptance email from the Yonsei University online application system. This email will contain all information required to file your online application.

  • Please note that all stated due dates are firm.
  • Undergraduate (BSc) vs. graduate (MSc) enrollment: Undergraduate degrees are four-year degrees in Korea.
    • Exchange students enrolled at Yonsei University as undergraduate students in year 4 can register for both undergraduate and graduate courses.
    • Exchange students enrolled at Yonsei University as undergraduate students before year 4 can register for undergraduate courses only.
    • Exchange students enrolled at Yonsei University as graduate students can register for both undergraduate and graduate courses.
    • Undergraduate exchange students can enroll up to 18 course hours (credit points, CP) per week.
    • Graduate exchange students can enroll up to 15 course hours (credit points, CP) per week.
  • Required Documents for the online application (from the Student Guide emailed to you, Step 2):
    • Language Proficiency Proof: The language proficiency proof has been waived for students from Uppsala University. Please create a text file of the contents "Language proficiency proof waived per Swedish university entrance requirement (established by Professor Anders Berglund, Uppsala University)." Please submit this text file in place for the language proficiency proof.
    • Study Plan: please refer to the information on available courses to draft your study plan. This study plan can be revised once you come here, in accordance with your exchange coordinator(s).

After your online application has been processed, our Office of International Affairs (OIA) will send you an admission email. You will need this admission email to apply for housing, and for your visa application. Please note that admission emails are typically emailed in December (for the Spring semester) and in June (for the Fall semester). If you did not receive an admission email by the end of December/June, please contact our exchange coordinator.

Step 2: Obtain Health Insurance Cover

You must enroll in a health insurance plan of your choice and upload the related proof document as described in the Student Guide emailed to you, Step 6.

Once your health insurance has been approved by Yonsei University, you will be officially registered as an exchange student. This registration will provide you with your student ID (required to register courses).

Step 3: Apply for Housing

You can only apply for on-campus housing once you have received the admission email as described in Step 1 above. How to apply for on-campus housing is described in our admission email. The available on-campus housing options are detailed here. All on-campus housing is allocated on a first-come-first-served basis!

Should you prefer to stay off-campus, or if on-campus housing is unavailable, information on off-campus housing is provided here (please note the three different options stated in the three tabs on that page).

Step 4: Apply for a Visa to the Republic of Korea (ROK)

To apply for a visa, you need the admission email described in Step 1 above. The visa application procedure, along with all required documents, is described here.

Step 5: Course Registration

The online course list, eligibility criteria and how to register courses is described here. To register courses, you need the student ID described in Step 3 above.
